So work is starting to pick up and over the past two weeks I’ve had a few training sessions and managed to get my hands dirty in a few tasks.

Getting practical experience is crucial, this is especially true in digital marketing, as its very prone to change. Changes in trends, updates from google, consumer habits etc, its important to keep up, and one of the best ways to do this is by implementing and testing out what’s changed. This will not only keep you relevant but increase your confidence in your digital marketing ability.

Here are the trends I think will dominate digital marketing in 2021.

  1. E-commerce and Direct to consumer (DTC). This is one is probably the most obvious. The pandemic has accelerated the shift to digital and e-commerce as the world went into lock down.
  2. User experience matters now more than ever. Consumers shouldn’t find it difficult to browse your website, app or any other touch point.
  3. Word of mouth. With so many brands and so much information out there word of mouth is probably the best form of marketing. Consumers will trust their friends and family the most and will likely buy from places recommended by them.

But this is just my opinion, here’s what the experts have to say.

This week I got some practical experience in social media. I did some social media reporting by analysing performance and metrics, and trying to understand why something has gone up or down.

I also got to give some content ideas for some clients which was a lot of fun. To any new marketers starting out, the best piece of advice I can give is to share your ideas and put them forward.

That’s all from me for this week. Let me know the best piece of advice you’ve heard in your digital marketing career. What trends do you think will dominate digital marketing in 2021?

P.S. I am planning to publish bi-weekly form now onwards.
